A little more about Hardwood Lake

Hardwood Lake, nestled in southern Ogemaw County, Michigan, is a serene and scenic destination ideal for lakefront living, fishing, boating, and enjoying the natural beauty of northern Michigan. Whether you're a longtime resident, a seasonal visitor, or looking to invest in Michigan lake property, Hardwood Lake offers the perfect balance of peaceful seclusion and vibrant lakeside community.

A Rich History of Lakeside Living

Hardwood Lake has a long tradition of recreational and residential development. First developed in the 1930s, the area began when potential buyers were brought in by bus to purchase lakefront lots, many once part of farmland owned by John Cook. The north side of the lake developed first, followed by the east and—more recently—the west. Today, there are about 100 cottages and year-round homes on the lake, offering a tight-knit community with a welcoming, vacation-like feel all year round.
